UAE Bans Import of Fresh Pakistani Meat via Sea Routes
New Restrictions Impacting Pakistan's Meat Export Industry
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned the import of fresh Pakistani meat via sea routes and issued a directive in this regard.
According to sources, fungus was found in chicken meat in a container from a Karachi-based company.
The UAE authorities have stated in the issued directive that frozen meat is also included in the import ban, and the ban will be effective from October 10th.
In this regard, Pakistani exporters have mentioned that monthly exports of Pakistani meat through sea routes amounted to 120 million dollars.
According to exporters, the cost of export is higher via ships, and maintaining quality standards for fresh meat or food products is a challenge worldwide.
Exporters have appealed to the Pakistani government to address this issue with the United Arab Emirates.
