UK’s Rishi Sunak Considers Imposing Ban on Cigarettes
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Contemplates a Cigarette Ban
According to British newspapers, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is considering introducing measures that would impose restrictions on purchasing cigarettes for the next generation.
The report states that the Prime Minister is considering anti-tobacco measures, similar to what New Zealand announced last year, where anyone born on or after January 1, 2009, is prohibited from selling tobacco.
According to international media, these policies are part of a new campaign targeting consumers ahead of the expected elections next year.
A spokesperson for the British government has stated that they want to encourage as many people as possible to quit smoking and achieve their goal of a smoke-free society by 2030.
The spokesperson also mentioned that they have taken previous measures to reduce the smoking rate for this reason.
