Petrol Prices Unchanged for Next Fortnight, Govt Announces Electricity Tariff Relief

0

Islamabad: The federal government has announced that petroleum prices will remain unchanged for the next fortnight, starting March 16, 2025, despite fluctuations in global oil rates. However, to provide relief to consumers, the government has decided to reduce electricity tariffs instead.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the prices of key petroleum products, including High-Speed Diesel (HSD), Motor Spirit (MS-Petrol 92 RON), Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO), and Light Diesel Oil (LDO), will remain at their current levels. Petrol will continue to be available at Rs. 255.63 per liter, High-Speed Diesel at Rs. 258.64 per liter, Superior Kerosene Oil at Rs. 168.12 per liter, and Light Diesel Oil at Rs. 153.34 per liter.

The decision to maintain fuel prices aligns with the government’s approach to managing inflation while adjusting power tariffs to compensate for the impact of global oil price variations. The move is expected to provide some relief to the public as energy costs remain a major concern.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that instead of passing on potential increases in fuel costs to the public, the government will focus on electricity tariff adjustments. Further details on the extent of the power tariff reduction are expected in the coming days.

The announcement comes at a time when economic pressures are mounting, with inflation and energy costs remaining critical issues for consumers. Economists and industry experts suggest that while keeping fuel prices unchanged may offer short-term stability, the real impact on household expenses will depend on the effectiveness of the announced power tariff reductions. Further updates on energy pricing and government policies are anticipated in the coming weeks.
