A 25-year-old Brazilian woman lost her life after inadvertently inhaling the aroma of black pepper while cooking for her family. Thais Medeiros was busy cooking when she accidentally inhaled the aroma of black pepper included in the food, causing a burning sensation in her throat and leading her to faint. She was immediately taken to the hospital where she received initial medical assistance.
Doctors identified that she had cerebral edema, a condition caused by swelling in the brain. Medical experts believe that Thais Medeiros possibly had an allergy to black pepper, which ultimately led to her demise. Before her death, Thais also went into a coma, but eventually passed away.
Experts say that cerebral edema increases pressure inside the skull, which disrupts blood flow and oxygen transmission in the brain, making it difficult to perform normal functions. According to the report, symptoms of this disease include headache, nausea, vision problems, and seizures.
