Applications are now open for the RISE Summer Internship 2026 in Germany, an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate students in science and engineering fields to gain hands-on research experience at leading German universities and research institutions. The Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE), funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office, is a fully funded internship program designed to foster international academic collaboration and research exchange.

Through the RISE program, students from around the world are matched with host institutions in Germany according to their academic background and research interests. Interns work under the supervision of experienced doctoral students and researchers, contributing to real-world scientific projects while developing valuable research and technical skills.

The RISE Germany Internship is fully funded, covering a monthly stipend of 992 euros, health, accident, and liability insurance, as well as a travel allowance to and within Germany. Additionally, all participants are invited to a two-day networking meeting in Heidelberg, where travel expenses of up to 160 euros are also provided. Around 300 scholarships are awarded annually, making it one of Europe’s most prestigious internship opportunities for students in STEM disciplines.

Applicants must be undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of study in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, earth sciences, or related areas. Eligible students must be enrolled in accredited institutions in North America, Ireland, or the United Kingdom. Knowledge of German is not required since the internship is conducted in English, although familiarity with the language can be helpful in daily communication.

The internship duration is approximately three months, typically during the summer, offering students the chance to engage in high-level research and explore Germany’s rich academic and cultural environment.

To apply, candidates must prepare the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter for each selected project
  • Official university transcript
  • Reference letter
  • Proof of enrollment or verification from their university
  • List of completed and ongoing courses

All applications must be submitted through the RISE online database, where applicants will create an account, register, and upload the required documents. Only complete applications will be considered. The ranking of candidates will take place between January 13 and January 26, 2026, with final internship placements announced by February or March 2026.

The application deadline for the DAAD RISE Summer Internship 2026 in Germany is November 30, 2025. This internship offers students a unique chance to gain international research experience, build professional networks, and contribute to groundbreaking scientific projects—an opportunity not to be missed for aspiring scientists and engineers.
