Punjab Government Introduces Model Graveyards Project

Laying the foundation for a compassionate and convenient approach to burial services, the Punjab government has initiated a pioneering project to establish model graveyards in various cities. With a focus on enhancing the final resting places for the departed, this strategic move encompasses Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sahiwal.

Affordable Farewell: During a detailed briefing to Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the local government secretary revealed a pivotal aspect of the project. A substantial reduction in burial fees at these model cemeteries has been enacted, aiming to alleviate financial burdens during times of grief. Burial charges have been decreased from Rs. 10,000 to a more accessible amount of Rs. 3,500, offering families the means to provide a respectful resting place for their loved ones.

Streamlined Services: Expanding accessibility to these modern graveyards, citizens can now access a dedicated ambulance service by dialing 1190. This thoughtful provision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and respectful transition for the departed.

Flagship Haven for the Departed: Central to this initiative stands a flagship model graveyard, occupying a substantial 127 kanals along Sundar Road in Raiwind. Going beyond being a conventional resting place, this facility boasts contemporary amenities such as a sturdy boundary wall, dedicated funeral facilities, and ablution spaces. With a remarkable capacity to accommodate over 12,000 graves, this model graveyard stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to honoring the departed.

Supporting Cultivators’ Well-being: In parallel, the government is addressing the concerns of cultivators. To enhance their quality of life, the caretaker CM has solicited recommendations for a specialized package aimed at providing essential facilities and support to this vital community.
