Karachi has unveiled its first Mangrove Biodiversity Park at Korangi Creek, inaugurated by Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab. This innovative floating park, developed in collaboration with the Sindh Forest Department, is designed to conserve mangrove ecosystems, promote environmental awareness, and engage civil society and the business community in conservation initiatives.

The park, conceived by Shah Murad Aliani and architect Tariq Alexander Qaiser, incorporates eco-friendly features such as sustainable pathways, a floating education center, and the use of 80% recycled materials in its construction. It provides a unique habitat for more than 72 bird species, along with mudskippers, fiddler crabs, and other mangrove wildlife, blending biodiversity preservation with educational opportunities. Visitors can learn about the ecological importance of mangroves while experiencing the natural environment in a safe and interactive way. Plans are already underway to develop a second mangrove park near the Karachi Port Trust, further strengthening the city’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable urban development.
