Emirates Flight Experiences GPS Signal Interference Near Karachi Airport

An Emirates Airlines international flight faced a GPS signal disruption just minutes before landing at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan, on Tuesday night, aviation officials confirmed. The incident involved Flight EK606, which encountered navigation system issues while descending to an altitude of approximately 3,000 feet. According to sources within the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the aircraft’s captain promptly contacted Karachi Air Traffic Control (ATC) to report the anomaly.

After receiving the report, ATC controllers at Karachi airport guided the aircraft using alternate navigation support to facilitate a safe approach and landing. No injuries or delays were reported, and passengers disembarked without incident. This is not the first time GPS signal interference has been reported in Pakistani airspace. In February 2025, multiple commercial flights experienced similar GPS spoofing or jamming issues near key airports in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. In response, the Pakistan CAA issued updated aviation safety guidelines for pilots and air traffic controllers.

Officials attribute these disruptions to radio frequency interference, which can affect aircraft navigation systems such as the Global Positioning System (GPS). Although such interference rarely causes serious incidents, it may result in minor deviations from designated flight paths if not promptly addressed. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining air traffic safety, stating that continuous monitoring and preventive protocols are in place to detect and mitigate future GPS-related issues. Pilots are advised to report any anomalies immediately and provide detailed data to aid in investigations.
