SBP Clarifies Current Account Balance Following PBS Trade Data Revision

0 0

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has clarified that its current account balance data will not undergo significant revisions following recent updates to trade figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). In response to speculation about potential changes, the SBP explained that its trade data is primarily derived from trade payments information collected directly from banks, rather than the customs-based data published by PBS.

Consequently, the central bank does not expect any major adjustments to the current account figures it has already published. The SBP noted that while minor revisions may occur as part of routine practice, no significant changes are anticipated. This clarification aims to address concerns raised after PBS revised its trade data, ensuring transparency and public confidence in the accuracy of Pakistan’s trade and current account statistics.
