The construction of a 1,100 TEU container vessel for the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) was officially launched on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s maritime capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign shipping services. The steel-cutting ceremony was held at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) and inaugurated by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, with senior officials from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, PNSC, and KSEW present to witness the milestone.

During the ceremony, the minister described the project as a strategic achievement, emphasizing that it reflects the government’s commitment to revitalizing Pakistan’s shipping and shipbuilding sectors. The initiative is expected to boost domestic maritime infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and enhance the country’s capacity to manage cargo transport independently, aligning with broader national economic objectives. The launch of the vessel construction project underscores Pakistan’s focus on self-reliance in maritime trade and strengthening its position in regional and global shipping markets.
