Solar net-metering’s share in Pakistan’s total power generation increased by 14 basis points year-on-year in December 2025, highlighting growing solar adoption and a gradual shift away from reliance on the national power grid, according to the latest industry data.

Arif Habib Limited reported that overall power generation recorded an 8.8 percent year-on-year increase during the month, reflecting higher electricity production across the sector. The rising contribution from solar net-metering indicates continued interest from households and businesses in renewable energy solutions amid rising electricity costs.

Despite the annual growth, net-metering unit additions declined sharply on a month-on-month basis. Data shows a 56.3 percent drop in net-metering installations in December compared to the previous month, suggesting a temporary slowdown in new connections and capacity additions.

Meanwhile, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has projected modest growth in electricity demand, estimating a 1.0 percent year-on-year increase in power consumption for calendar year 2026. This outlook reflects cautious demand expectations as energy efficiency measures and alternative power sources continue to influence consumption patterns.
