Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) in the Nashpa Block, situated in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The discovery was confirmed through a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) conducted in the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations, with results showing production of 225 barrels of oil per day and 1.01 million standard cubic feet of gas per day through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 190 psig.

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest, while its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited with a 30% stake and Government Holdings (Private) Limited holding a 5% carried interest. The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well, spudded on December 30, 2024, was designed to assess the hydrocarbon potential of multiple formations, including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali, reaching a total depth of 5,170 meters.

Prior cased hole drill stem tests in the Kingriali, Datta, Samana Suk, and Shinawari formations also resulted in successful oil and gas finds. OGDCL stated that this latest discovery is expected to strengthen the country’s energy security by contributing indigenous hydrocarbon resources to Pakistan’s national reserves and helping bridge the supply-demand gap in the energy sector.
