Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major relief initiative titled the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package, offering reduced electricity rates for Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors over the next three years. The program, designed to strengthen production and boost exports, will be effective from November 2025 to October 2028.
Under the new plan, industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at a subsidized rate of Rs. 22.98 per unit, marking a sharp reduction from the current average charges of Rs. 34 per unit for industrial use and Rs. 38 for agricultural consumers. The Prime Minister clarified that the cost of this subsidy will not be transferred to household users or other sectors, ensuring that relief remains targeted toward productivity and economic growth.
The initiative follows last year’s winter relief package, which successfully encouraged higher electricity consumption in the industrial and agricultural sectors, resulting in an additional 410 gigawatts of usage. That increase helped factories maintain operations, supported exports, and created jobs during a challenging economic period.
While announcing the package, the Prime Minister commended Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for designing the plan, emphasizing that it reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable economic recovery. He noted that Pakistan’s economy has moved from crisis toward stability through collective effort and prudent policymaking, pointing to improving economic indicators as evidence of progress.
The Prime Minister stressed that the long-term objective of the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package is to achieve economic independence by fostering growth in key sectors, reducing reliance on external borrowing, and promoting self-sufficiency. Implementation details and rollout procedures for the relief plan are expected to be shared by the Ministry of Energy in the coming weeks.
