US President Donald Trump has called for a major increase in the United States’ military budget for 2027, proposing a rise to $1.5 trillion from the current level of about $1 trillion, as part of his vision to build what he described as a “dream military.” In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the proposal followed extensive discussions with lawmakers and senior government officials, reflecting what he described as growing global security threats and geopolitical instability.
Trump argued that significantly boosting defense spending would strengthen the country’s military capabilities and ensure the United States remains safe and secure against any potential adversary, regardless of the scale or nature of the threat. He emphasized the need for advanced weapons systems, modernized forces, and expanded military readiness to maintain American dominance and deterrence worldwide.
The former president also linked the proposed increase in defense funding to revenue generated from tariffs imposed on other countries, suggesting that these measures could help offset the cost of higher military spending. He framed the plan as both a strategic investment in national security and a financially viable approach, claiming it would protect US interests without placing additional strain on domestic taxpayers. The proposal, if pursued, would mark one of the largest defense budgets in US history and is likely to spark debate over government spending priorities, fiscal policy, and America’s role in global security.
