Punjab Government Announces Winter Break for Schools from December 23 to January 11, 2026

The Punjab government has declared winter vacations for all educational institutions from December 23, 2025, to January 11, 2026, with schools scheduled to reopen on January 13, 2026. This directive applies to both public and private schools, and no institution is allowed to change the announced schedule. The measure has been introduced to safeguard students’ health during the severe winter conditions and provide them with time to prepare for the upcoming academic session.

In addition to the winter break, first semester exams in Punjab government schools have been postponed. Earlier, schools had adjusted their timings in response to worsening smog, requiring classes to begin no earlier than 8:45 am to ensure students’ safety and reduce exposure to hazardous air conditions. These steps reflect the government’s efforts to balance academic continuity with students’ health and well-being during extreme weather and environmental challenges.
