Hardware startup Aina has introduced a new AI-powered smart ring that breaks away from the health-tracking focus of most wearable devices, positioning itself instead as a compact controller for smartphones, computers, and AI assistants. The device, called the Aina AI Ring, packs a small display, a joystick, a microphone, and a speaker into a finger-worn form factor.

The ring is now available for preorder at $399, with shipments expected to begin in January 2027. Aina says the price will rise to $499 once the introductory offer ends. The long lead time suggests the company is still finalizing both hardware and software ahead of mass production.

Unlike conventional smart rings that monitor sleep, heart rate, and activity, the Aina device is built for interaction. Its screen shows phone notifications, upcoming meetings, and details about the application currently being controlled. Users can navigate the interface through the built-in joystick or gestures, and the ring can trigger different actions depending on which app is open on a connected phone or Mac.

The microphone supports voice notes, prompts to AI agents, reminders, and dictation on a Mac. For transcription, the device works with Wispr Flow as well as Aina's own voice-to-text system. The integrated speaker also lets wearers answer and place phone calls directly through the ring, eliminating the need to reach for a handset.

Beyond AI interactions, Aina says the ring can manage music playback, handle notifications, and operate compatible smart home devices, including Apple TV. Users can read and respond to notifications without opening their phones, and the device can surface upcoming meetings or perform tasks such as requesting an Uber ride.

Aina acknowledges that some of these software capabilities are still being developed and refined, meaning early buyers may not receive the full feature set at launch. The company is betting that consumers want a wearable that extends control over their digital lives rather than simply tracking their health, a category already crowded with established players.
