Chinese automaker BYD has set a new milestone by selling more than 300,000 fully electric passenger vehicles in a single month, a figure that outpaces the combined electric vehicle sales of the entire United States market over three months.

According to the company's latest sales data, BYD sold 305,743 battery-electric passenger cars in October 2026, a rise of 37 percent compared with the same month a year earlier. For comparison, Kelley Blue Book estimates that US buyers purchased 262,649 new electric vehicles in July, August and September combined. In effect, BYD sold more fully electric cars in one month than every automaker together managed across the US during an entire quarter.

In total, BYD reported 490,168 new energy vehicle sales in October, a category that includes fully electric cars, plug-in hybrids and commercial vehicles. The figure represents an 11 percent increase over October 2025 and marks the company's highest monthly sales total so far in 2026.

Battery-electric passenger cars made up roughly 63 percent of the company's passenger vehicle sales during the month, and October marked the first time BYD crossed the 300,000-unit threshold for fully electric models in a single month. The company also recorded its third consecutive month of growth in electric vehicle deliveries.

Over the first ten months of 2026, BYD sold approximately 1.95 million fully electric passenger cars, nearly 6 percent more than in the same period last year. The figures underscore the widening gap between the scale of China's electric vehicle manufacturers and the pace of adoption in the US market.

The performance highlights BYD's expanding production capacity and its growing share of the global electric vehicle segment, even as it faces increasing competition and trade barriers in several overseas markets. For now, the company's monthly output continues to set new records, reinforcing its position as one of the world's largest electric vehicle producers.
