A confidential United Nations report has alleged that a network of companies and facilities linked to the United Arab Emirates helped move Colombian mercenaries into Sudan to fight alongside the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to international news agencies that reviewed the document.
The report states that the UAE-based Global Security Services Group (GSSG) facilitated the movement of Colombian fighters into Sudan through routes passing through Libya, Somalia and Chad. UN investigators also identified a base run by the UAE-linked Puntland Maritime Police Force in Bosaso, Somalia, as a site used for the transit or training of the fighters before their deployment.
According to the investigators, the Colombian personnel played a significant role in RSF military operations in Darfur, particularly during the siege and capture of el-Fasher. Their involvement reportedly included operating drones and providing artillery and infantry support to RSF forces.
The report further names training locations in Abu Dhabi, Ghayathi and al-Wathba in the UAE, along with facilities in Somalia, as part of the alleged network. The findings have not been independently verified by this publication.
The UAE and other entities named in the report have rejected the allegations. Abu Dhabi has maintained that it is not involved in supporting the RSF's military operations.
The leak adds to international scrutiny of external involvement in Sudan's conflict, which has displaced millions of people and drawn repeated warnings from humanitarian organisations. The UN has not publicly commented on the confidential document.
