Glenn Maxwell Calls Time on International Cricket After 14-Year Career
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket, ending a career that produced three ICC titles and one of the most celebrated innings in World Cup history.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has retired from international cricket with immediate effect, closing a career that spanned more than 14 years and included three ICC trophies, according to ESPNcricinfo. The report identifies Australia's group-stage match against Oman at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year as his final international appearance.
Maxwell, 38, had already stepped away from one-day international cricket in June 2025. He never formally announced a retirement from Test cricket, but a return to the longest format had long seemed improbable, with his last Test appearance dating to 2017.
Debuting in August 2012, Maxwell represented Australia in seven Tests, 149 ODIs and 130 T20Is. Across all formats he scored 7,226 runs, including 10 centuries and 35 half-centuries, and took 136 wickets, establishing himself as one of the game's most inventive attacking players.
He was part of Australia's ODI World Cup-winning squads in 2015 and 2023 and the T20 World Cup-winning side in 2021. His most memorable contribution came at the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai, where Australia had slumped to 91 for 7 chasing 292 against Afghanistan in a must-win match. Battling severe cramps in intense heat, Maxwell struck an unbeaten 201 off 128 balls, including 21 fours and two sixes, to seal a three-wicket victory and keep Australia's title charge alive.
Maxwell's retirement removes a proven big-match performer from Australia's white-ball setup as the team plans for its next cycle of ICC tournaments. His versatility as a middle-order aggressor and part-time spinner made him a fixture in Australian limited-overs sides for more than a decade.
