The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has issued a final notice to the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) over unpaid property taxes exceeding Rs. 1.5 billion, according to MCI officials. The dues are linked to IESCO-owned properties and open spaces situated within the federal capital.

Officials said the outstanding amount has built up over time despite repeated reminders sent by the civic body. The corporation has now given the power distribution company a last opportunity to settle its liabilities before it moves ahead with further measures to recover the money.

A Deputy Director at the MCI stated that multiple notices had been issued to IESCO in the past, but the company did not clear its property tax obligations. The latest notice sets a deadline for payment and carries a warning of additional action should the dues remain unpaid.

The dispute highlights the financial pressure on municipal authorities as they work to recover revenue from public and private entities operating in Islamabad. Property tax collections are a key source of income for the MCI, which relies on them to fund civic services and infrastructure.

IESCO has not publicly commented on the notice. It remains to be seen whether the company will settle the amount within the given timeframe or contest the demand. The MCI has indicated it will pursue recovery through available legal channels if the payment is not made.

The case is being watched as an example of how civic agencies are tightening enforcement against large institutional defaulters. For consumers and businesses in the capital, the outcome could signal a more assertive approach to tax recovery by local authorities.
