The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released a step-by-step guide explaining how citizens can obtain replacement identity documents when their original cards are lost or damaged. The guidance, shared through a video published on NADRA's official Facebook account, covers the reprinting of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs) and Pakistan Origin Cards (POCs).

According to the authority, the process begins at a NADRA Registration Centre, where applicants should first obtain a token from the reception desk. They then wait for their turn before proceeding to the designated counter for the application process. The centre-based route remains the standard channel for anyone seeking a duplicate of a lost or damaged card.

A key requirement is the number of the lost or damaged document. Applicants must provide the number of their CNIC, NICOP or POC before the replacement request can be processed. NADRA's official website similarly lists the existing CNIC number as the basic requirement for a duplicate card, making it advisable for citizens to locate the correct document number before visiting a centre.

The most important stage is biometric verification. When their turn arrives, applicants visit the assigned counter, where NADRA staff confirm their identity using fingerprints, a photograph and an iris scan. This multi-factor check allows the authority to authenticate the applicant before approving the replacement request.

After verification, applicants obtain approval, pay the applicable fee and collect their replacement card following the prescribed processing period. By publishing the guide, NADRA aims to make the replacement process clearer for citizens and reduce confusion at registration centres, particularly for those unfamiliar with the required documents and verification steps.
