Pakistani Rupee Extends Record Streak, Posts Biggest Weekly Gain Against US Dollar
The rupee closed at 276.67 against the dollar, marking its 277th consecutive session of gains and its strongest weekly performance in recent memory.

The Pakistani rupee continued its remarkable run against the US dollar on Thursday, closing at 276.67 after gaining three paisas and extending an uninterrupted winning streak that has now reached 277 consecutive sessions. The closing level also marked the currency's biggest weekly increase against the dollar in a week, underscoring a sustained period of stability in the interbank market.
According to market data, the rupee has recorded gains against the dollar every trading day since December 25, 2025, a stretch that has reinforced expectations of a more stable external position for the country. The steady appreciation has been gradual, with daily movements measured in single-digit paisas, but the cumulative effect has been significant for importers and businesses tracking currency costs.
The rupee also advanced against most other major currencies in Thursday's session. It gained 18 paisas against the British pound, eight paisas against the euro and two paisas against the Canadian dollar. Smaller gains of one paisa each were recorded against the UAE dirham and the Saudi riyal, currencies of key remittance corridors for Pakistan.
Not all crosses moved in the rupee's favour. The local currency lost 35 paisas against the Australian dollar, reflecting mixed movement across global currency markets rather than any single domestic factor. Currency analysts note that such day-to-day fluctuations against non-dollar currencies are common and are largely driven by international market dynamics.
The extended appreciation against the dollar is being watched closely by traders, exporters and policymakers alike. A stronger rupee reduces the cost of imported goods and energy, which can ease inflationary pressure, though it may narrow margins for exporters who earn in foreign currency. The consistency of the trend over nearly 11 months has made it one of the more closely followed indicators in Pakistan's financial markets.
Market participants will continue to monitor interbank movements in the coming sessions to see whether the streak holds, with the rupee's performance against the dollar remaining the key benchmark for gauging near-term currency stability.
