Simon Fraser University (SFU) in British Columbia, Canada, is inviting applications for fully funded Master’s and PhD research positions through its Synthetic Aperture Radar Laboratory (SARlab). The laboratory, which specializes in satellite radar technology, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and environmental monitoring, guarantees two years of funding for Master’s students and four years for PhD students.

According to the university’s official announcement, the starting annual stipend is CAD 28,000 for Master’s students and CAD 32,000 for PhD students. Additionally, students may receive extra financial support of CAD 15,000 or more per year through graduate fellowships and teaching assistantships, making the total funding package competitive for international students.

SARlab has advertised three PhD research positions under a project funded by NSERC Alliance in collaboration with Canadian technology company MDA. The project, titled 'Enhancement of SAR Research Methods to Identify and Create Community-Centric Mapping Applications for Canada’s North,' aims to develop improved radar-based monitoring systems for northern Canadian communities.

Researchers will combine Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced engineering techniques to monitor environmental changes and maritime activities. The project also seeks to create mapping applications that support local communities and facilitate the exchange of traditional and scientific knowledge.

Master’s candidates may also be considered for alternative research positions within the laboratory. Successful applicants will work on cutting-edge satellite radar technologies and their practical applications, contributing to advancements in remote sensing and environmental monitoring.

This opportunity is ideal for students interested in pursuing advanced research in radar technology and its applications. With generous funding and a focus on impactful projects, SFU’s SARlab offers a promising pathway for aspiring researchers to engage in innovative work with real-world implications.
