The Sindh government has announced plans to build Pakistan's first dedicated marble city in Karachi, a project designed to draw investment, expand industrial activity and generate employment. The announcement was made by Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at the pre-launch ceremony of the Karachi Marble City Industrial Park.

According to officials, the park will span more than 300 acres along the Northern Bypass and carries an estimated cost of $250 million. It will be developed under a public-private partnership framework, with the government setting an average land price of around Rs. 25 million per acre and offering installment plans to prospective investors.

Memon said the facility would allow marble and granite extracted in Sindh and elsewhere in the country to be processed locally using modern machinery and technology. He noted that the project is intended to help Pakistan move away from exporting raw materials and instead produce finished marble and granite products for international markets.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Investment Qasim Naveed Qamar said the government is also exploring ways to supply affordable electricity, machinery on rent and modern industrial equipment to businesses that set up operations in the park. These measures are aimed at lowering operating costs for manufacturers and making the park more attractive to both local and foreign investors.

Registration for investors is scheduled to open next month. The project is part of broader efforts by the provincial government to promote value-added manufacturing and strengthen the country's industrial base, while creating new job opportunities in and around Karachi.
