Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has laid the foundation stone for a new 600-bed hospital in Larkana, Sindh. The facility is expected to be completed by 2028 and will provide free medical treatment to residents of the city and surrounding underserved areas.

The ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Project Director Yasir Bhatti, who briefed officials on the project. Speaking at the event, Bilawal said the need for a new hospital became evident during his visit to Chandka Hospital after being elected to the National Assembly from Larkana. He noted that Chandka Hospital was built in the 1970s for a much smaller population but now serves patients from Larkana and nearby cities. The new facility is expected to address the growing demand for healthcare services in the region.

Bilawal also mentioned that residents would be able to receive medical treatment through the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT). In addition to the hospital, he announced plans to improve water supply and sewerage services in Larkana. Work has begun to restore and expand the Ratodero water supply scheme, and the city’s sewerage system will be upgraded to meet its needs for the next 25 years.

During a separate meeting at Bhutto House in Naudero, Public Health Engineering Secretary Sohail Qureshi informed officials that the feasibility study for Larkana’s water supply, sewerage, and rainwater drainage project had been completed. The project aims to provide clean drinking water to every household in the city within two years. Meanwhile, 50 percent of the Shahdadkot sewerage scheme has been completed, with the remaining work expected to finish next year.

Bilawal also highlighted the Sindh government’s investment in higher education, stating that the province currently provides Rs. 45 billion to universities and plans to increase funding. The new hospital and infrastructure projects are part of the government’s efforts to improve public services in the region.
