TikTok has quietly launched a standalone shopping app for Android and iPhone users, marking a significant expansion of its e-commerce ambitions beyond the main social media platform. The new app, called TikTok Shop, is currently available in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, according to a report by TechCrunch. The launch was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra and has not yet been formally announced by TikTok.

The standalone app offers a dedicated shopping experience where users can discover products, watch shopping livestreams, access exclusive discounts, and place orders without opening the regular TikTok app. It provides personalized product recommendations based on users' interests and allows customers to browse products through short-form videos and livestreams, similar to the shopping features within the main TikTok app. According to its official app description, TikTok Shop includes app-exclusive deals, free shipping offers, and special benefits for first-time customers.

Users can complete purchases through in-app checkout, make secure payments, track their orders, and contact customer support. The app also offers round-the-clock customer support for shoppers. Previously, TikTok Shop operated as a feature within the main TikTok application, enabling users to buy products promoted through videos, livestreams, and product listings.

By launching a separate shopping application, TikTok is moving into more direct competition with established e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Temu. The company can now attract customers who want to shop without browsing its main social media app, potentially capturing a new segment of online shoppers. This strategic move underscores TikTok's growing focus on e-commerce as a revenue stream and its ambition to become a major player in the global retail market.

The standalone app is currently limited to four Southeast Asian markets, but its launch signals TikTok's intent to scale its shopping features globally. As the company continues to expand its e-commerce offerings, it could reshape the online shopping landscape, especially among younger consumers who are already accustomed to discovering and buying products through social media.
