Passenger bus and goods transport associations have announced a 5% fare cut on intercity and interprovincial routes, passing recent petrol and diesel price reductions on to travellers and shippers.

Two major transport bodies have announced a 5% reduction in fares on inter-district and interprovincial routes, following the federal government's latest cut in petroleum prices. The All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Association confirmed the passenger fare reduction, which applies to both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses.

According to the association, the move is intended to pass fuel savings directly on to passengers travelling between districts and provinces. The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance announced a matching 5% cut for goods transport, extending the relief to freight and logistics costs.

Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan said the decision reflected the decline in petrol and diesel prices over the past four to five days. He thanked the prime minister and the federal petroleum minister for the relief, while urging the government to lower fuel prices further to ease operating costs for the transport sector.

Under the latest adjustment, petrol now costs Rs. 352.59 per litre after a reduction of Rs. 9.41, while diesel fell by Rs. 5.56 per litre to Rs. 382.25. The twin announcements mean the fuel price cuts now feed through to both passenger travel and the movement of goods across the country.

The fare reductions are expected to offer modest relief to commuters and businesses reliant on road transport, though operators say sustained relief will depend on further declines in fuel prices. The two associations said they would continue to review fares in line with future petroleum price adjustments.
