Vivo is reportedly developing a wide-screen smartphone for 2027, according to a tip from Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The device is said to feature a display smaller than 6.5 inches, marking a shift toward a more compact form factor with a wider aspect ratio than conventional phones. The tipster did not explicitly name Vivo, but references in the post have been widely interpreted as pointing to the company.

The rumored phone is expected to adopt a traditional non-folding candybar design, similar to Huawei's recently introduced Pura X View, which has a 6.39-inch OLED screen with a 16:9.5 aspect ratio. Vivo's device could offer a comparable screen size. Other Chinese manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Honor, and Oppo, are also reportedly working on wide-screen smartphones, with launches anticipated in 2027.

Some fans have speculated that Vivo might revive its X Note series with the new device, possibly calling it the X Note 2. The original Vivo X Note launched in 2022 with a 7-inch LTPO AMOLED display and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, but the company never released a direct successor. If Vivo opts for a display under 6.5 inches, the new phone would be significantly more compact than the original X Note.

The X Note 2 name remains speculative, as Vivo has not confirmed any plans to bring back the series. Digital Chat Station has not shared details about the phone's processor, cameras, battery, or charging capabilities. For now, the leak only suggests a possible 2027 launch and a display smaller than 6.5 inches.

This development comes as smartphone makers experiment with wider aspect ratios to improve media consumption and productivity. Huawei has already taken a step in this direction with the Pura X View, and other brands are expected to follow. Vivo's potential entry could intensify competition in the niche wide-screen segment.

While the report remains unconfirmed, it highlights Vivo's interest in diversifying its portfolio beyond standard designs. As 2027 approaches, more details are likely to emerge about Vivo's plans and the broader trend of wide-screen smartphones.
