Authorities in Islamabad have announced plans to commence construction within a month on a new five-kilometer highway connecting the city to the M-1 Motorway via Margalla Road. The project aims to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and facilitate smoother transport between Islamabad and the motorway network.

Under the plan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will construct the first 2.7 kilometers, while the National Highway Authority (NHA) will complete the remaining 2.3 kilometers. The project is part of the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), with a total budget allocation of Rs 6 billion.

During a high-level review meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, officials confirmed that both sections of the highway project have received PC-1 approval. Tendering processes are expected to be completed within a week, clearing the way for construction to begin promptly.

Officials highlighted that the new highway will provide a faster and safer route for commuters, reduce traffic load on existing roads, and support Islamabad’s growing transportation needs. The collaboration between CDA and NHA reflects a coordinated effort to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.

Once operational, the Margalla Road-M1 Highway is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, improve trade and logistics efficiency, and offer commuters a reliable and modern route linking the capital with the national motorway system.
