Karachi Enhances Sewerage Cleanup Operations with Deployment of 20 New “Blue Trucks”

Karachi’s sewerage system has received a major upgrade as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation introduced 20 additional suction and jetting vehicles to improve citywide sanitation work. These new “blue trucks” will support rapid clearing of clogged sewer lines, especially during the monsoon season when blockages typically worsen. With this expansion, the fleet has grown from 122 to 142 vehicles, significantly strengthening the city’s sewer maintenance capacity.

KWSC Chairman and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the administration is prioritising large-scale urban development projects, including a Rs630 million investment aimed at modernising the sewerage system. As part of the improvement plan, three new service centres are being established at Karsaz, Sakhi Hassan, and the SITE Industrial Area / Haroonabad to ensure quicker field response and better operational support.

In a key institutional reform, the mayor also laid the foundation for KWSC’s first dedicated police station. This facility will help tackle water theft more effectively by enabling the Anti-Theft Cell to launch immediate actions without depending on external police units. The station will include specialised staff and a dedicated tribunal to ensure faster processing of cases and stricter enforcement.

Karachi is also moving toward environmentally friendly initiatives. KWSC has installed an electric vehicle charging station for its employees to encourage the use of cleaner transportation. Wahab noted that similar EV initiatives within the KMC have been successful and that citywide expansion of public charging stations is planned to support long-term sustainability goals.

Together, these developments mark an important step toward a more efficient, faster, and eco-conscious sewerage and utility system in Karachi. Residents can look forward to improved service delivery, quicker resolution of sewerage issues, and stronger protections against water theft.
