Valued at Rs. 9 billion, the proposal will be submitted to the provincial government for approval under the Special Karachi Development Grant.

A high-level meeting chaired by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab at the KMC Head Office brought together senior city officials, including Secretary Local Government Waseem Shamshad, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, and KMC Municipal Commissioner Syed Muhammad Afzal Zaidi, to review and finalize the road development strategy. Officials discussed multiple urban infrastructure schemes and agreed to proceed with all shortlisted road rehabilitation projects immediately after the release of funds.

The plan targets roads with heavy daily traffic that have suffered deterioration due to congestion, increased load, and insufficient maintenance. Major routes across District Central, District West, District East, District South, District Korangi, and District Malir are included in the upgrades. Key corridors identified for improvement include Hashim Raza Road, Shahrah-e-Usman, Al-Amna Avenue, Shahrah-e-Usman to Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, Gulshan-e-Ghazi, 19-D Road, Faqir Colony roads, Sehba Akhtar Road, Sardar Usman Ali Sabri Road, Nash Kazmi Road, Garden Road, Mirza Adam Road, Sarwar Shaheed Road, Jinnah Square Road, Liaquat Market Road, Khokar Par Road, Mehran Depot arteries, and other internal connectors linking residential and commercial neighborhoods.

In addition to road upgrades, KMC has proposed further allocations, including Rs. 1 billion for sewerage repairs and Rs. 2 billion for street-light improvements, aimed at supporting overall city infrastructure and ensuring safer, more accessible streets.

Mayor Wahab emphasized that the development package will significantly improve travel efficiency, reduce congestion, and enhance safety across all towns in Karachi. The projects will be executed on a priority basis with strict monitoring to ensure timely and high-quality completion, reflecting the city administration’s commitment to modernizing Karachi’s urban infrastructure.
