Rawalpindi Launches Advanced e-Challan System to Modernize Traffic Enforcement

Rawalpindi has officially rolled out its new e-challan system, representing a significant advancement in digital traffic enforcement. Implemented under the Safe City Project, the fully automated system eliminates the need for manual monitoring by law enforcement officers. The initiative features over 2,000 high-tech cameras installed at more than 350 strategic locations, including major roads, intersections, and high-traffic zones, providing continuous 24/7 surveillance of vehicular activity.

The e-challan system employs artificial intelligence to detect a range of traffic violations, including jumping red lights, riding motorcycles without helmets, failing to wear seat belts, using unauthorized or fake number plates, and committing lane violations. Once a violation is recorded, the system automatically generates an electronic challan and sends it directly to the vehicle owner’s registered address, ensuring timely and accurate enforcement.

Authorities have emphasized that the system is designed to enhance road safety, reduce traffic accidents, and promote responsible driving habits among commuters. By providing fair and transparent enforcement, the e-challan system aims to discourage reckless behavior and improve overall traffic discipline. Rawalpindi’s adoption of this digital framework places it alongside other progressive cities like Lahore, reflecting Punjab’s broader efforts to implement smart traffic management solutions and modernize urban mobility infrastructure for safer roads.
