Solar-powered net metering has emerged as the most cost-effective source of electricity in Pakistan, surpassing conventional grid supplies. Over the past four months, distribution companies (DISCOs) procured a total of 573.7 million units through solar net metering, with the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) leading at 157.764 million units.
The zero-cost input from solar net metering has contributed to lowering monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments, reducing fuel expenses for power companies and offering financial relief to consumers. Month-by-month procurement data shows consistent growth, even amid ongoing debates over tariff revisions, reflecting the rising significance of solar energy in Pakistan’s overall power mix.
This development represents a major milestone in advancing sustainable, affordable, and reliable electricity across the country. By integrating more solar power into the grid, Pakistan is taking significant steps toward energy diversification, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and promoting environmentally friendly solutions to meet the nation’s growing electricity demand.
