Car Tire Theft Surge in Karachi as Vehicles Parked Outside Homes Targeted in Multiple Incidents

Car tire theft cases are steadily rising across Karachi, with residents reporting frequent incidents occurring outside homes and in otherwise quiet neighbourhood streets. Thieves are increasingly targeting vehicles parked overnight, often removing all four tires within minutes and leaving cars propped up on bricks or blocks.

A recent incident in Malir Model Colony has intensified public concern. Within the jurisdiction of the Saudabad Police Station, all four tires of the Town Municipal Corporation UC-5 Chairman Muhammad Talha Khan’s vehicle were stolen. The car was parked outside his residence, yet the thieves managed to carry out the operation without being noticed.

Residents living along the same stretch of Khursheed Begum Road reported that multiple vehicles were targeted that night, with several owners waking up to find their cars stripped in a similar manner. Some residents say they heard noises late at night but did not suspect a coordinated theft was taking place.

Locals claim that tire-lifting gangs have become increasingly active, taking advantage of poorly lit streets, limited night patrols, and the absence of CCTV cameras in many areas. According to residents, these gangs often scout locations in advance and operate in groups, using tools that allow them to remove tires quickly and quietly.

Neighbourhood residents have urged the Saudabad Police and other law-enforcement agencies to conduct stricter night patrols, install surveillance cameras, and take firm action to dismantle these gangs. Many fear that if the situation remains unchecked, car parts theft—including batteries, side mirrors, and catalytic converters—may also see a further rise.

The growing number of incidents has left the community frustrated and anxious, with residents calling for stronger preventive measures to ensure the safety of their vehicles and neighbourhoods.
