The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) a no-objection certificate (NOC) to proceed with the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan (Private) Limited. The approval follows a comprehensive assessment conducted under the applicable regulatory framework, according to the regulator.
In a statement released on Saturday, the PTA said the proposed transaction was reviewed in terms of market competition, consumer protection, and its overall impact on Pakistan’s telecom sector. Consultations were also held with relevant government bodies to ensure full compliance with existing rules and regulations.
With the issuance of the NOC, PTCL can now move forward with the legal and commercial stages of the acquisition process. Both PTCL and Telenor Pakistan are required to maintain uninterrupted services, uphold quality-of-service standards, and fully comply with all license conditions throughout the transition period.
The PTA emphasized that it will exercise strict oversight over the entire process to safeguard consumer rights while supporting the development of a competitive, stable, and future-oriented telecommunications sector in Pakistan.
