The Punjab government has introduced the Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025 (POIP) to strengthen the rights of property owners and tackle illegal land occupation across the province. The ordinance is designed to ensure the prompt removal of unlawful occupants from land and other immovable property while providing fast-track legal remedies for rightful owners. Under the new law, strict penalties have been imposed for submitting false or misleading applications, ensuring accountability and discouraging misuse of the system.
The POIP allows property owners to seek immediate protection by submitting requests directly to the Deputy Commissioner. Special tribunals have been established to handle cases efficiently, enabling swift civil and criminal proceedings against illegal occupants. This ensures that rightful owners can reclaim their property without lengthy legal delays, significantly improving the enforcement of property rights in Punjab.
To make the system accessible to the public, the government has launched a dedicated online portal, allowing citizens to register complaints and monitor their progress. The process to file a POIP complaint is straightforward:
Visit the official POIP portal at poip.punjab-zameen.gov.pk.
Create a new account by providing personal details such as CNIC, mobile number, and email address.
Receive a One-Time Password (OTP) on the registered mobile number and enter it to complete account registration.
Log in to the portal using your credentials.
Select the option to register a complaint.
Choose a preferred language, either English or Urdu.
Enter property details and provide a description of the illegal occupation issue.
Upload supporting documents, including ownership papers or other evidence if required.
Submit the complaint through the portal.
Track the status of the complaint online.
Property owners may also submit a protection request directly to the Deputy Commissioner if necessary.
Officials stated that the POIP system has been developed to safeguard lawful property ownership while enabling decisive action against encroachers and land grabbers. By combining legal, administrative, and technological measures, the initiative is expected to provide timely relief to citizens and strengthen property rights enforcement throughout Punjab.
