Karachi, Pakistan’s largest and most populous metropolitan city, is set to see a significant upgrade in its public transport system with the introduction of five diesel-powered double-decker buses and 34 electric buses in January 2026. Sindh government officials confirmed that these additions will mark the revival of a mass bus service that has been absent for nearly six to seven decades.
The move aims to address the growing transportation demands of Karachi, the country’s economic hub, which hosts two major seaports and experiences heavy daily commuter traffic. The new fleet, including eco-friendly electric buses, is expected to reduce congestion, improve air quality, and provide safer and more efficient mobility for residents. This initiative reflects the Sindh government’s focus on modernizing urban transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable transit solutions in the fast-expanding city.
