WWF-Pakistan has confirmed that the current Noctiluca bloom along the country’s coastline is not toxic and is not responsible for any recent fish deaths. The environmental organization shared images showing a large pod of dolphins swimming in Gwadar waters amid the green-colored seawater caused by the bloom, calling the sighting both rare and noteworthy.
In an official statement, WWF-Pakistan explained that Noctiluca blooms, which give the sea a green hue, have been a recurring phenomenon along Pakistan’s coast since 2012. These blooms are a natural occurrence and, while visually striking, are harmless to marine life such as fish and dolphins. The organization emphasized that the recent bloom should not be a cause for public concern, highlighting the continued presence of marine biodiversity even in affected waters.
