The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting rainfall across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from December 30 to January 1, with snowfall expected in mountainous regions, ARY News reported. The authority has instructed all district administrations and relevant departments to remain alert and take precautionary measures.

Intermittent rain is likely in Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Kolai Palas, and Malakand, while Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kurram, Khyber, Bajaur, and Mohmand districts are also expected to receive rainfall. Additional districts, including Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and North and South Waziristan, may experience rain as well.

PDMA warned that roads in hilly areas such as Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, and Shangla could become slippery or closed, with a risk of landslides and avalanches. Relevant authorities have been directed to ensure proper drainage, secure billboards, and maintain continuous monitoring of rivers, streams, and rain-fed nullahs to mitigate potential hazards.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan has also issued a weather alert following the latest forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department. A westerly weather system is expected to approach the western parts of the country from Monday and intensify from Tuesday morning. Under its influence, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, along with snowfall in hilly areas, is forecast across most parts of Balochistan.

Authorities in both provinces have urged citizens to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, and follow safety guidelines to minimize risks during the upcoming weather events.
