Karachi Resident Receives Duplicate E-Challans for Parked Vehicle Amid TRACS System Glitches

In Karachi, a resident has reportedly received two electronic challans within 25 days for allegedly not wearing a seat belt, even though his vehicle was reportedly parked at his home.

The challans, each valued at Rs10,000, were issued against a 1987-model car, but the violations occurred on a different vehicle carrying the same number plate. The first incident was recorded on November 23 near Punjab Chowrangi, while the second took place on December 18 at the Hub Toll Plaza. Photographs accompanying the challans show the same individual driving the vehicle on both occasions.

Authorities suspect that criminal elements may have affixed the old number plate to a newer car, which reportedly travels across provinces, including Balochistan. The citizen has been asked to submit a formal application to clarify the situation and resolve the discrepancy.

Since the launch of the TRACS e-challan system, traffic issues in Karachi have reportedly improved to some extent. However, glitches in the system—such as tickets being issued for sold, stolen, or mismatched vehicles—continue to cause problems for residents.

In a similar case in November, another Karachi citizen received an e-challan worth Rs25,000 for a traffic violation near Avari Tower, despite claiming that his vehicle was parked outside his home at the time. These recurring issues highlight challenges in the e-challan system that authorities need to address.
