28 Injured in Karachi Due to Aerial Firing During Celebrations

At least 28 people, including women and children, were injured in Karachi due to incidents of aerial firing as the city welcomed the New Year 2026, according to hospital and rescue authorities. The victims were transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Civil Hospital Karachi, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. Among those injured were six women and two young girls.

Children affected included eight-year-old Fareeha near Safora and 11-year-old Mah Jabeen in Korangi’s Area Market. Injured women included 18-year-old Wajiha in Mahmoodabad No. 5, 40-year-old Aleena in Qayyumabad’s D Area, 55-year-old Shameem Umar in Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme 33, and 53-year-old Meraj Bano in the Lines Area. Rescue officials reported casualties from multiple neighborhoods, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Mauripur, Pak Colony, Azam Basti, Gulberg, Manzoor Colony, and Kashmir Road, with victims’ ages ranging from 16 to 65 years.

Other injured individuals included 35-year-old Drees Shafiq in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 2, 33-year-old Nabeel in Golimar, 40-year-old Naik Muhammad near New Sabzi Mandi, 16-year-old Kaasham Kumar near Five Star Chowrangi, and 65-year-old Zaheer at Johar Mor.

Authorities once again warned residents against aerial firing, emphasizing that the dangerous practice not only threatens innocent lives but also undermines the spirit of festive celebrations.
