The National Highways and Motorway Police has temporarily closed seven major motorways across Punjab and Sindh due to dense fog, urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious. The closures were implemented as a safety measure after visibility dropped sharply on several key routes, increasing the risk of accidents during winter conditions.
According to NHMP updates, the affected sections include the M-1 from Peshawar to Rashakai, M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Chakri, M-3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakem and Sher Shah to Shams Kot, M-5 from Rohri to Rahim Yar Khan, M-11 from Lahore to Sambrial, and M-14 from Daud Khel to Isa Khel.
Officials stated that dense fog is a recurring winter hazard in Punjab and Sindh, often reducing visibility to extremely low levels and leading to frequent traffic accidents. Drivers have been advised to reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance, and delay travel until weather conditions improve. Motorists are also encouraged to check the latest traffic updates through official NHMP channels before setting out.
While limited movement has reportedly resumed on some stretches, several major motorways remain affected, particularly M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-11. Commuters and transport operators are advised to plan alternative routes and stay informed as conditions continue to change.
