Punjab is preparing to launch nine major development projects in the Faisalabad Division under the Punjab Development Program, with work planned across Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh districts at a cost of billions of rupees. The initiative is aimed at accelerating regional development and improving infrastructure through timely execution and close administrative oversight.
Commissioner Faisalabad Division Raja Jahangir Anwar reviewed the progress of the proposed projects during a high-level meeting and emphasized the urgent completion of master planning, tendering, and the award of contracts. He stressed that delays at the planning stage could impact overall project timelines and directed all concerned departments to move forward without obstruction.
To ensure smooth execution, the commissioner instructed assistant commissioners, NESPAK, local government departments, and the project management unit to maintain strong coordination throughout the process. He stated that once planning approvals and contract awards are finalized, development work should commence immediately in double shifts to meet deadlines. He also announced weekly visits to the relevant tehsils to personally monitor progress and address implementation issues on the ground.
The commissioner highlighted that the chief minister has issued clear directives for the swift and effective implementation of the Punjab Development Program. As a result, deputy commissioners have been instructed to treat PDP projects as a top priority and closely supervise execution to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely completion.
In a separate meeting, Commissioner Anwar ordered the installation of fire extinguishers in all multi-storey buildings within one week, citing safety concerns. He directed Civil Defense and Rescue 1122 to issue notices to marquees, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, industrial units, housing societies, public offices, and educational institutions to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations. He also instructed authorities to conduct mock emergency drills in educational institutions to improve preparedness for potential emergencies.
The commissioner warned that inspections would begin after the one-week deadline, led by himself along with deputy and assistant commissioners. He stated that strict action would be taken against non-compliant facilities, including fines and sealing of buildings, to enforce safety standards and protect public welfare.
