Pakistan Considers Extension of Government Employees’ Retirement Age

A viral notification on social media claiming that the federal government has increased the retirement age for government employees from 60 to 63 has been confirmed as fake. The circulating document, allegedly from the Establishment Division, stated that all federal employees would receive a three-year extension effective January 1, 2026.

Official sources have rejected the claim, describing the notification as baseless. They clarified that no formal approval has been issued by the Finance Division or the Establishment Division regarding any change in retirement age.

Authorities noted multiple inconsistencies in the viral notice, including the use of a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa logo, the unusual title “Ministry of Pakistan Islamabad,” and a forged signatory listed as “Shakeel Qadeer Khan, Chief Secretary, Ministry of Pakistan.” Reference numbers purportedly from the Finance and Establishment divisions were also fabricated, with no genuine record of such a decision.

Officials emphasized that similar false notifications have appeared on social media before, often creating confusion among the public and government employees. They urged people to verify information through official government sources and notifications published in the Gazette rather than relying on social media posts.
