The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched Nishan Pakistan, a unified digital platform designed to modernize and standardize identity verification services across Pakistan. Authorized under Section 7 of the NADRA Ordinance, 2000, NADRA provides identity verification services to government bodies and regulated private sector entities for lawful purposes.
Previously, identity verification processes were fragmented, manual, or semi-digital, requiring multiple touchpoints between NADRA and service-consuming entities. Onboarding government departments and private organizations often involved lengthy documentation, repetitive approvals, and siloed access, causing delays, inconsistencies, and limited transparency.
Nishan Pakistan addresses these challenges by offering a web-based portal that serves as a single digital gateway for government entities and regulated private organizations to onboard, subscribe, and securely access NADRA’s identity verification services. The platform delivers verification services through a fully digital, standardized, and regulation-driven process, ensuring lawful access, accountability, and enhanced data protection.
Through Nishan Pakistan, registered entities—including banks, microfinance banks, electronic money institutions, non-banking financial institutions, telecom companies, and other regulated organizations—can securely access multi-biometric verification APIs, Verisys demographic and identity verification services, Proof-of-Life API, and Single Sign-On for system access. The platform enables efficient customer identity verification while ensuring purpose limitation, proportionality, and data minimization in line with NADRA regulations.
Developed under the Government of Pakistan’s Digital Economy Enhancement Project, Nishan Pakistan supports timely and accurate identity verification for government social welfare and public service programs and provides secure, compliant verification capabilities for private sector organizations.
