The Sindh government has once again extended the deadline for the mandatory replacement of old vehicle number plates with the new Ajrak design security plates. The new deadline for all types of vehicles has now been set for December 31, 2025. Initially, the Excise Department had fixed October 31, 2025, as the final date for the transition.

According to an official notification issued by Sindh’s Excise Department, the timeline for replacing existing number plates with the new security-featured Ajrak design plates has been extended to provide vehicle owners additional time to comply with the regulation. The new plates have been introduced to enhance security, prevent duplication, and standardize vehicle identification across the province.

Sindh’s Excise and Taxation Minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, earlier clarified in an interview with Business Recorder that only the Excise offices are authorized to issue the new Ajrak-style number plates. Plates obtained from private agents, unauthorized vendors, or local shops will not be considered valid under the new policy.

Explaining the design and security elements, the minister said the new number plates feature background threads, 3D holograms, and scannable barcodes, making them more tamper-proof and easier to verify. These enhanced security measures aim to curb vehicle-related fraud, ensure authenticity, and improve the province’s vehicle registration database.

The extension offers vehicle owners more time to obtain the official plates from designated Excise offices and ensures smoother implementation of the new system. The government has urged all vehicle owners to complete the replacement process within the extended deadline to avoid penalties or registration issues after December 2025.
