Pakistan’s men’s futsal team achieved a historic milestone by defeating Bhutan 4–2 in the SAFF Men’s Futsal Championship 2026 at Nonthaburi Stadium, marking their first-ever international victory at a SAFF Futsal event. Bhutan initially took a 2–0 lead at halftime, but Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback in the second half, scoring four consecutive goals to secure the win.
The victory followed Pakistan’s heavy 7–1 loss to Maldives in the tournament opener, making the comeback even more significant. Earlier, on January 15, Pakistan’s women’s futsal team also recorded their first international win with a 3–2 triumph over Sri Lanka at the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026. These historic results highlight the growing potential of Pakistani futsal despite limited infrastructure and ongoing challenges faced by the national teams.
Pakistan Football Federation President Mohsen Gilani praised the players and coaching staff for their resilience and determination, stating that these achievements will serve as a foundation to elevate futsal in Pakistan. In addition, Pakistani referees and coaches completed futsal certification courses during the championship, further contributing to the development and professionalization of the sport in the country.
