Shreyas Iyer Suffers Life-Threatening Spleen Injury, Rushed to ICU After Fielding Fall vs Australia

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been hospitalized after sustaining a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia, with doctors confirming internal bleeding that required immediate medical attention. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the middle-order batter did not travel with the rest of the squad following the conclusion of the series and was instead admitted to a local hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Medical reports revealed that Iyer suffered internal bleeding, prompting doctors to move him to the intensive care unit (ICU). Officials said the situation could have become life-threatening had it not been treated promptly. His vitals reportedly began fluctuating in the dressing room shortly after the incident, leading the team’s medical staff to act swiftly.

“Shreyas has been in the ICU for the past couple of days. After the reports came in, internal bleeding was detected, and he had to be admitted immediately. He will remain under observation for anywhere between two to seven days depending on recovery, as doctors wanted to prevent infection due to the bleeding,” a medical update stated.

A source close to the team added that the team doctor and physio prioritized his safety, rushing him to the hospital without delay. “Things are stable now, but it could have been fatal. He’s a tough lad and should be fine soon,” the source said.

Iyer is expected to stay in the hospital for at least a week as doctors monitor his recovery. His return to India will depend on his medical clearance, but reports suggest his condition has now stabilized.
