Pakistan has introduced its first domestically hosted artificial intelligence cloud, a landmark initiative aimed at keeping sensitive national data within the country while providing businesses and public institutions with access to advanced AI computing capabilities. Until now, Pakistan, like many emerging markets, relied heavily on overseas cloud servers for AI and machine learning tasks, raising concerns about data privacy, financial information protection, telecom metadata security, and overall national security compliance.
The new AI cloud aligns with a global trend of “sovereign clouds,” where nations develop domestically hosted platforms under local jurisdiction to enhance digital sovereignty and reduce reliance on foreign service providers. By operating within national borders, Pakistan’s AI cloud ensures that all data processing, analytics, and AI training are conducted securely within the country, offering greater control over sensitive information while fostering local technological development and innovation.
