OpenAI Acquires Health Startup for $100 Million Following Launch of Health Features

OpenAI has acquired the healthcare startup Torch for an estimated $100 million in equity, with the company’s four-person team joining OpenAI as part of the deal. Torch, which developed an app to unify medical data from multiple sources—including doctor visits, lab results, wearables, and wellness tests—aims to create a “medical memory for AI” by consolidating fragmented health records into a single context engine for analysis.

The acquisition positions Torch’s technology to be integrated into ChatGPT Health, OpenAI’s recently launched service that allows users to manage and analyze health-related information through ChatGPT. Both companies confirmed the team’s transition, though OpenAI has not yet disclosed how or when Torch’s capabilities will appear within ChatGPT Health.

Torch co-founder Ilya Abyzov noted that the team previously met while working at Forward Health, an AI-powered healthcare company that shut down in late 2024 after raising over $400 million. Under OpenAI, Torch’s technology will continue to be developed with a focus on improving the management and understanding of personal health data.
